A recent survey by the National Custom and Self- Build Association (NaCSBA) revealed the toughest obstacles faced by self-build hopefuls. A staggering 56 per cent claimed finding an affordable/suitable site with which to build their own home was by far the biggest challenge they faced.
Mike Hardwick, NaCSBA CEO, said, ‘These figures make interesting reading and echo the views of self and custom builders that I meet. The demand for land is still well above the available supply and so many of our supporters are eager to start their projects in the next couple of years but are held back by this critical shortf all.’
Starting a self-build can be very easy if you or your family already own a suitable piece of land, or it may take years of effort if you have geographical or budgetary constraints.
