Fiona Laing was the speaker at the November meeting of Shiskine SWI. With her faithful sidekick Annie the doll, Fiona gave an interesting, instructive and entertaining demonstration on what to do for someone who has stopped breathing.
Fiona has become so adept in her role as the ‘face’ of Arran Heartstart that she knows exactly when to drop in a wee touch of gallows humour without losing sight of exactly why we were all listening so avidly and why she gives to much of her time.
At the end of her talk members felt better equipped to administer CPR and even to use a defibrillator. The fact that there are numerous public defibrillators around the island is entirely down to Fiona and her Heartstart colleagues. Following a break for supper, the meeting concluded with some business and the announcement of the evening’s winners Joan Stewart, get well card, and Piet Johnston, favourite heart ornament. The next meeting is at 7.30pm on Wednesday December 6 in Shiskine public hall.
