Members of the Isle of Arran SNP branch hosted a drop-in cafe last Wednesday at the Ormidale Pavilion in Brodick to encourage discussion and assess island opinion on the current ferry port debate.

The event, which provided information about Troon and Ardrossan, was well attended by members of the public. Opinions and suggestions were collected in discussions and by means of an ideas board. On balance, it appeared that there is very little support from Arran residents for moving the mainland port to Troon, because of longer journey times, fare increases and the lack of a direct rail connection to the port. It was also clear that the Arran public has a wealth of ideas for improving the service currently provided from Ardrossan.
