Asperger’s
syndrome is often called “social awkwardness” because its attributes are difficulty communicating with others, lack of eye contact, feeling you don’t fit in, and being thought rude or abrupt in the way you talk to people. This is one of the reasons that autistics find it hard to make friends easily.
I can relate to that as I know I don’t make friends easily, but I do have friends whom I feel have helped my Asperger’s by getting me to meet people and talk to them, and one friend especially.
During primary school, I found it hard to make friends as I didn’t know what to say to others in my class to do so. Instead, I ended up tagging along with two other girls, whom I believed were friends at the time. Looking back, I don’t think they were friends, but rather, they got me to do things that I didn’t want to do, like picking on another girl and giving up dance lessons.
