Fostering Communication with Your ASD Grandchild

One of life’s most exciting and rewarding milestones is becoming a grandparent. It’s a new chapter filled with opportunities to bond, share wisdom, and create lasting memories. As I prepare to welcome my first grandchild in April 2025, my heart is full of love and anticipation.

While each grandchild is unique, some grandparents may have the joy of building a relationship with a neurodivergent grandchild, such as one diagnosed with autism. For many of us, communication is one of the most essential aspects of that relationship.

Let’s explore how grandparents can foster meaningful communication with their autistic grandchildren, focusing on understanding, patience, and connection.
