It’s fantastic to watch more and more eco-friendly shops pop up all over the country, and that’s exactly the case with franchise, The Source Bulk Foods. Despite originating from Australia, it now has three stores in the UK, as well as a handful in New Zealand, too. Its newest location in Brighton, which only opened last month, joins Chiswick and Battersea as the brand’s British stores. So far, The Source Bulk Foods has helped communities save an estimated 600,000 single-use plastics and this sustainable way of shopping only seems set to increase. We spoke to Makayla Drummond-Murray to find out more.

I am really passionate about the outdoors and conserving the natural environment. A few years ago, my husband and I were trying to reduce the impact our lives were having on the planet and part of that was reducing the amount of waste we were creating. We tried to shop without plastic in London, but were finding it extremely challenging as there were limited options available to us. That’s where the idea came from that we could open a packaging-free shop. I was in Australia and discovered The Source Bulk Foods in Byron Bay. They had really nailed the concept so I got in contact with the founders there, and together we brought the stores to the UK.
