GETTING A ROUND IN: Don Cockell sparring with Joe Crickmar just upstairs from the pub, whose customers were welcome to watch
THERE is an old road that runs diagonally down through Southeast London, taking in Southwark, Walworth and Peckham, from where hundreds of great fighters have come over the years. It continues past Deptford and Greenwich and on to a road well-travelled; an historic road that goes back centuries, known as the Old Kent Road.
Many weary travellers making their way into the capital will have stopped there for sustenance, and many of them will have stopped at one of its most historic pubs, The Thomas A’ Becket .
