As of 17th January, the cost of submitting a planning application has increased by 20%. Self-builders and renovators now face higher tariffs to seek permission to carry out work. Detailed and outline applications for new builds are now charged at £462. And those wishing to erect an extension or outbuilding will need to cough up £234 in householder planning consent forms before making any changes to their property.
The government has also announced new regulations that enable permission in principle applications at a cost of £402 per 0.1 hectare. These will come into force on 1st June, with further guidance to be published soon. This route may be used by local authorities to develop brownfield land and designate areas to become available for residential use. This planning process was used in the Graven Hill development.
