Government changes to the RHI scheme come into force on 20th September. The programme allows homeowners with eligible renewable technology installations to take advantage of cashback payments, made quarterly over a period of seven years. For applications from this date onwards, tariff rates for biomass boilers, air and ground source heat pumps (GSHP) and solar thermal panels are 6.54p/kWh, 10.18p/kWh, 19.86p/kWh and 20.06p/kW respectively. Another important element of changes to the scheme includes the introduction of annual heat demand limits on which homeowners can receive payments. For example, the restriction for GSHPs is now set at 30,000kWh per year. These caps should be above what many selfbuilders and renovators will need, but might affect larger projects.
