It’s typical of Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott’s luck that, back at No.1 after 22 years with Manchester Calling, they’re not only unable to tour the album for 18 months but Jacqui has to withdraw from the belated tour halfway through.
Paul finishes the tour solo, offering refunds for anyone who wanted the full Heaton & Abbott experience.
It’s an interesting decision, for seeing where Heaton’s solo career now resides. Before reuniting with Jacqui in 2013, his three solo albums flopped. His previous solo tour in 2010 was at pub venues. In the interim, Paul’s songwriting has belatedly been appreciated, finally winning an Ivor Award for his back catalogue.
