1982
On his 23rd birthday, vocalist Morten Harket joins Bridges, a band formed by keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and guitarist Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, in Asker, Norway. This, in effect, is the birth of A-ha. Although he had played in a couple of local bands, Harket was studying theology when he first encountered the other future members of A-ha at his school in the Oslo suburb of Asker. According to Mags: “Bridges was on a battle of the bands and Morton came up after the show and said: ‘You’re the best band in Norway, but you need a vocalist’.” He claims he didn’t say that, but we remember it that way and, anyway, it was pretty clear that he was the vocalist.”
