EDGE
Control how much memory Edge uses
Edge doesn’t use as much memory as Chrome and Firefox – it’s actually the lightest of the main browsers in terms of the system resources it uses. But when you have lots of tabs open and extensions installed, it may consume RAM that’s needed by other programs.
To prevent Edge from hogging memory, Microsoft has added a ‘Resource controls’ option, which lets you limit how much RAM the browser can use. It’s mainly intended for when you’re playing games on your PC, but is equally useful when performing other resource-intensive tasks such as editing videos.
To activate this new feature in Edge 134 (released in March), click the three-dot menu button top right and choose Settings followed by ‘System and performance’. Scroll down to the ‘Manage your performance’ section and switch on the new ‘Resource controls’ option ( 1 in our screenshot below).
