After many painful years of watching heteronormative dating shows, MTV’s True Love Or True Lies? gifted us the queer cast members we’ve all been waiting for. The LGBTQI community, and many other minorities, are so often excluded from the UK’s dating shows, and it can be a real turn-off when there’s nobody to relate to and diversity is clearly the last thing on the agenda.
But this time MTV got it right, and in 2019, Poppy, 21, and 25-yearold Parisa (who you might recognise from series 11 of The X Factor) were crowned the Perfect Couple on the network’s True Love Or True Lies? – making them the first female samesex couple to win a dating show. Poppy and Parisa are here, queer and proving that us LGBTQI folk are ready to take on the mainstream media. We caught up with the perfect pair following their big win to get to know them a little bit better.
