PARIS LOVE LOCK-DOWN
Paris will be removing nearly one million padlocks, equalling 45 tonnes-worth of declarations of love from Pont Neuf, the city’s oldest bridge. Authorities started removing the locks last year when parts of the bridge’s railings suffered under their weight, posing a risk to pedestrians. “We love that lovers from across the world come to Paris... but we must also protect this heritage,” said Bruno Julliard, then first deputy to the mayor of Paris. Fair enough really – how about tying old Birkenstocks to the bridge instead? Now that would be a true sign of love.
