The Seventh Doctor, Ace and Hex are back for two spooky new adventures.
In The Flying Dutchman, they land aboard an 18th-century vessel in the middle of the ocean, and learn that its crew have sighted the eponymous ‘ghost ship’ of legend. “I thought setting the whole thing aboard a ship would make for a good soundscape,” explains writer Gemma Arrowsmith. “You would have creaking wood and the sea. I thought, ‘That probably lends itself quite well to an audio drama.’ That was the initial catalyst that made me choose the Flying Dutchman, and then I had to learn all about it. The myth went on for hundreds of years: it’s a ghostly ship that maybe has the souls of the dead aboard it, and you hear them calling out, and it glows, and it’s a portent of doom…”
