Despite the move towards digital media at the turn of the century, there are a handful of titles that were only ever available on tape. “The original early 1990s run of narrated soundtracks were never issued on CD,” says Michael Stevens. “[Sound engineer] Mark Ayres oversaw versions that superseded them, and I don’t actually know whether the separate narration tracks exist anywhere.”
Although the BBC Radio Collection’s more recent series of soundtrack releases certainly benefited from superior source recordings, it looks like fans will have to dig out their tape decks in order to experience The Power of the Daleks from the Doctor’s own perspective.
