These early examples, produced before the idea of an extensive line had been officially conceived, had limited articulation. Their dramatic stances led them to become affectionately known among fans as the ‘disco pose’ figures. (This version of the Ninth Doctor was the one subsequently used alongside the Tenth Doctor in the 2006 Regeneration Set, with the original burgundy shirt changed to black.)
The Ninth Doctor was eventually rereleased in a more neutral pose to match the rest of the range. Variants were created by changing the shirt colour, including a green-shirted version from Father’s Day (2005), released as an Underground Toys San Diego Comic-Con exclusive in 2008, and a navy-shirted model from Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways (2005), which could be found in the 2016 Thirteen Doctors Gift Set.
