As an actor trained at LAMDA (London Academy of Dramatic Art), Derrick Sherwin began his television career appearing in such series as William Tell (1958), Danger Man (1960), Harpers West One (1962) and The Plane Makers (1964). He briefly became a household name in 1966, playing striker Bryn Morriston in 27 episodes of the BBC’s United!, a twice-weekly football drama created by Brian Hayles. When Sherwin refused an offer to continue in the show because he thought the scripts were rubbish, producer Anthony Cornish invited him to write for the programme instead.
