A new visual style that seemed underwhelming in trailers proves inspired. There’s always plenty going on, but the action is easy to parse and runs smoothly – outside those preposterously exaggerated hit-pauses, at any rate
O ne of the major new additions to this enhanced edition of the 2011 game (known over here as Kirby’s Adventure Wii; no prizes for guessing why Nintendo went with the US title this time around) is a lavish amusement park. In these brightly decorated castle grounds you’ll find a series of short-form activities from Kirby games past, from Super Star’s Samurai Kirby to The Amazing Mirror’s Crackity Hack, with a new tome-retrieving aside to boot. It’s fitting for a series that has always had a funfair ambience: roll up for a generous selection of gaudy attractions! Individually, they might not rock your world, but the cumulative effect of all this good cheer and colour is a pretty robust assurance of a fun time.
