Electronic Sound

Issue 124 Gerry and Sylvia Anderson produced some of the most exciting children's television of the 1960s and 1970s. The list – 'CAPTAIN SCARLET', 'THUNDERBIRDS', 'JOE 90' and 'UFO', to name just some of their programmes – goes on and on. And Barry Gray's music, which was initially largely orchestral but later increasingly electronic, was crucial to the success of them all. Syncing ingenious sound effects with pitch-perfect incidental tracks, as well as producing a string of unforgettable theme tunes, he was responsible for the sonic magic of the Andersons' "Supermarionation". Our indestructible hero on the cover of this month's issue wouldn’t have been the same without him.
