The website www.kypwest.org.uk allows you to explore a location using a series of maps from the past and is accompanied by stories, photos, facts and research to bring the locations alive. The project started with Bristol, but now covers the six surrounding counties of Bath and North East Somerset, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. I spoke to Peter Insole, who is Principal Historic Environment Officer at Bristol City Council. He is still as enthusiastic about the project now as he was seven years ago when he came up with the idea.
