Ithink I had the upper hand when it came to choosing an off-road bike to compete in a threeand- a-half hour sand race, and not just because I’m a lot more clever than the other two (although I definitely am), but because I spent my youth racing MX bikes nearly every weekend, hoping one day I’d be a world champion. Well, needless to say, that never happened, but in 2002 I was crowned Hull and District 85cc MX Champion – the only other lad in the championship broke his leg half way through the season, but that’s irrelevant – I won fair and square.
