Get the last of your spring bulbs planted if you still have some waiting to go in. Check they are firm and have no signs of rot. Tulips do very well planted late, daffodils work too and grape hyacinths are particularly tolerant. They all simply flower on shorter stems when planted late.
Plant in pots and gaps in borders, making the hole depth three times the height of the bulb. Mark your planting sites with a handful of grit and peg a piece of chicken wire over them if squirrels are a problem.
