The Corps Today
HQ 3 Cdo Bde RM deployed the 1-Star C2 capability to Camp Viking, to prepare for Very High Readiness operations, testing the ability to plan at reach. Prior to flying out to Norway Ex Stonehouse Warrior focused on HQ Plans and Orders functionality using battlespace management software. Stonehouse Barracks hosted two VIPs Professor Dr Julian Lindley-French, prolific writer and commentator on NATO and European Defence and strong supporter of the Commando Force (CF) and Norwegian Ambassador to the UK, Tore Hattrem, who visited with the Defence Attaché (DA), Counsellor for Defence and Security and Adviser to the DA.
43 Cdo FP Gp RM: The Unit focused training on the CF Assaulters Course, Ex Sure Shot and Ex Heavy Hit. In addition to these mission specific exercises 16 ranks were committed to the Cold Weather Warfare course in Norway. Continued FGen ensures the Unit is ready for any nuclear security eventuality. Members of the Unit attended the RN Ski Championships in the French Alps. 43 Cdo also found itself out in the community contributing to the Glasgow STEM event showing students the possibilities that exist in the Royal Marines.
47 Cdo RG RM: With WD25 well underway Boat Group (BG) completed various exercises and live firing in Norway. The BG embarked RFA Lyme Bay for Ex Joint Viking providing the surface manoeuvre capability for 45 Cdo RM. MIOPs Tp delivered a coxswains’ course for future operators. On completion of the course the coxswains participated in boarding rehearsals with HMS Iron Duke and a boarding party from 42 Cdo RM.
