In August 2023, Dorset Police received a serious complaint of inappropriate, obscene behaviour, occurring within the dune area of the official naturist zone but visible to and witnessed by shocked families with children, walking the footpath adjacent to the naturist zone.
The unacceptable, indecent acts by a very small group of exhibitionists abusing the dunes reflects badly on naturism and on every genuine naturist. They threaten our future use of the beach.
Studland Beach Users’ Action Group (SBUAG) has asked all naturists to be more pro-active and engage with National Trust (NT) beach patrols and the police to ensure the beach and dunes can be enjoyed by all, and to report inappropriate, obscene and illegal activities. If it’s something that wouldn’t be acceptable on any other beach, don’t allow it to happen on ours.
SBUAG meetings over the last 20 years or so have created a better relationship, planning and understanding between naturists, the NT, Dorset Police, Dorset Council, Studland Parish Council and a variety of other beach user groups.
Most incidents reported within the naturist zone occur in the dunes, rather than the beach itself. NT, who manage the beach and Studland peninsula, has been working with Dorset Council and Dorset Police regarding these issues, and is asking the public to report any incidents on 01929 450500. It’s worthwhile storing that number in your phone now.
