Did you know menopause can affect your teeth? Top dentist Dr Shameek Popat shares how to protect our pearly whites
Looking after your teeth is vital at every stage in life, but going through the menopause can leave you especially susceptible to issues such as a dry mouth, bleeding gums and loose teeth, as well as the painful burning mouth syndrome.
With 84% of women unaware of the link between the menopause and their mouth, we spoke to Dr Shameek Popat, founder of planet-friendly oral health care brand Tooth Angel (visit toothangel. co.uk), about what to do – and not to do – when it comes to dental care during this time.
Dr Shameek, what do we need to do for optimum oral health?
“Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes. Brush all the teeth you want to keep! People are in a rush, but it’s so important to find that time. And change your toothbrush or toothbrush head every three months because the bristles wear away, fray, splay and become ineffective.
