How Aloe Blacc is using music to connect with those affected by the California wildfires – and his kids
INTERVIEW: KATIE DALY
It’s 15 years since Aloe Blacc broke out with I Need a Dollar, the irrepressibly catchy single that made him a worldwide star in 2010.
The California-born soul singer, who cites Marvin Gaye as one of his greatest inspirations, found further fame with Wake Me Up, his collaboration with DJ Avicii, before embarking on a series of world tours.
Based in Los Angeles, Aloe is married to Mexican-Australian DJ Maya Jupiter, and the couple have a daughter and a son.
After his children’s school burnt down in wildfires in January, Aloe dedicated a concert to raising funds to support other families affected by the disaster.
Now, he returns with a new album, Stand Together, which he says was born out of a “deep sense of responsibility” following his recent philanthropic work.
