In my lofty home I feel at one with nature
With a little imagination, writer Rebecca McNamara created her own New York-style loft apartment that’s bursting with colour
Living room
‘We had no solid ideas for the lounge area to start with. We experimented with many crazy arrangements of our mismatched furniture, as you so often do when you first move in to a new home. It wasn’t until we discovered a local craftsman making the most magnificent Chesterfield sofas that our journey began. We handpicked the leather so it’s totally unique and the heart of our home.’
‘As with all apartment living, storage can be the bane of your existence and I don’t like bicycles left in hallways, so we decided to make use of the lush 11-foot high ceilings and mount it on the wall to make a feature of its shape and design’
‘The loft was in an awful state, but the huge windows pulled us in’
GOOD IDEA
Make a feature of your bicycle by mounting it on the wall
Welcome to my home
A bit about me
I’m Rebecca McNamara and I live with my fiancé, Dan, our mischievous Shar-Pei, Mr Maximus, and my bundle of joy-to-be.
Where I live
My humble abode is a one-bed top-storey loft apartment in Manchester.
What I wanted to change
Top of the list was definitely the kitchen. The area was totally not user friendly thanks to a cumbersome horseshoe shape.
How I made it my own
In all of the homes we’ve lived in we love to reflect our personalities through colour, design, history and craft. There are many layers to a person, so why not channel that within our living spaces, too?
