PROJECT TITLE: LIJIANG UMBRELLA SHOP
Inspired by a visit to Lijiang in China, Edouard Quemper took part in West Studio’s Guest Artist Series and designed an umbrella shop that’s shaded from the sun by paper umbrellas – a common sight in the city’s Old Town
Sketching iterations
I focused on the building’s proportions and silhouette, with just enough detail to suggest the roof’s curvature, beams and structural elements. I explored the gimmick of hanging umbrellas, which I ultimately decided to go with.
