Thank you for the article in the June issue of Life and Work which I found to be most interesting having a personal interest in the work and mission of the Church in Botswana.
The Rev Dr Peter M Shepherd OBE who served the Bakwena from 1931 to 1947 in the footsteps of Dr Livingstone once wrote: “David Livingstone and the Bakwena – our Church has a real link for to find oneself in South Africa as the first medical missionary to the Bakwena since Livingstone; to have in one’s district the remains of the only permanent home he and Mary Moffat ever had in Africa; to be within a few miles of the cave which he made famous and bears his name, and which has been searched by successive explorers; to speak to a man whose proud boast it was that the great missionary had led him to the Light; to follow through humbly and falteringly in such footsteps, truly gave one the impression of coming into touch with the deepest things of life and inspired the hope that one’s soul might be quick to catch the spiritual influence of such contacts”.
