Spring sunshine at Seville’s April Fair

3 Soak up the spring sunshine in Seville

‘He who has not at Seville been,’ goes an ancient Arab proverb, ‘has not, I trow, a wonder seen.’ Make sure you’re among those who have, and hop aboard one of BA’s new flights to the Andalucían metropolis from Gatwick. From the minute you touch down, Seville’s proverbial wonder proudly announces itself – the city’s Alcázar, a royal palace that was once a Moorish fort, is magnificent: as beautiful but much less crowded than the Alhambra in Granada. And the wonder isn’t just found behind closed doors, it spills out everywhere – stroll the city streets and you can’t help but come across squares dotted with orange trees and ornate tiles, tapas bars overflowing with animated Sevillanos, and several centuries’ worth of impressive architecture. If possible, time your visit to coincide with the city’s biggest festival, the Feria de Abril (‘April Fair’), when the Los Remedios area fills with parades, horse-drawn carriages and a riot of polka-dotted flamenco dancers.
