Football brings people together – it’s an international language. I remember being driven somewhere in Algeria, and there was a communication issue that was entirely bridged by me saying things like “Bobby Charlton!” The taxi driver would beep and respond with “Denis Law!” Then I’d go “Georgie Best!” and so on until we’d completely bonded. I am sure conversations like this go on all over the world, though now you’d substitute Ronaldo for Charlton.
