… not for the frst time, a rumbling stomach has directed my travel plans. One read of chef Rachel Khoo’s personal tour of Paris (p72) and I booked my Eurostar ticket. I was sold at the mention of ‘the best bread in Paris’ (charmingly known as pain des amis, or friends’ bread), but I’ll be sure to fnd space for her recommendations of a slice of comté cheese, some squid tapas and a salted caramel éclair. Following an uncharacteristic moment of forward planning I also have a trip booked to New York, and am keen to visit Istanbul, Madrid and Mumbai, alongside discovering more of London, my home town. Tragically, these great cities are united by having suffered major terrorist attacks over recent years. And equally, all have endured: through the resilience of their inhabitants, and the eagerness of visitors to soon enough return.
