Factory Records’ 40th birthday celebrations continue into a second year with the release by Rhino Records of two limited edition boxsets and an exhibition telling the story of the famous Manchester label.
Use Hearing Protection: Factory Records 1978-1979 – The First 10 Numbered Records And Objects and Factory: Communications 1978-92 include rare and unheard material, while the exhibition Use Hearing Protection gathers together some of the iconic artwork created by the label’s creative director Peter Saville. Use Hearing Protection, released on 11 October, includes The Factory Sample EP (FAC 2), All Night Party by A Certain Ratio (FAC 5), Electricity by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (FAC 6) and Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division (FACT 10) as well as three posters, a short film, stationery, an egg timer and a 60-page book. The second box, released in November, includes 63 tracks on eight remastered discs.
