When you first start dressmaking, you probably assume that like shopping on the high street you must pick a size based on your largest spot. However, much like buying clothes, this means that your garment will only fit well at your largest point . So, here’s the thing, very few people are one size across the three key measurement points, bust, waist and hips. Most of us span at least two diff erent sizes and a lot of us will be a diff erent size in each area. I’m always asked by students how they then pick a size. Well the beauty of dressmaking is that you use all the sizes you span, by blending or grading between the key measurement spots.
