How to make a Paper Tea Cup with Crafts Beautiful

Posted Monday, April 3, 2017   |   1622 views   |   Hobbies & Crafts   |   Comments (0) Old books are the inspiration for Clare Youngs' dainty papercraft creations in the most recent May issue of Crafts Beautiful...

This is a great craft for all the papercrafts and card makers out there. Why not make something beautiful out of old books and papercraft like these stunning teacups? Perfect for parties, occasions and afternoon tea! You could even personalise them for different guests. Here’s how to make them:

You will need:

·         Book pages

·         Tracing paper

·         A pencil

·         Masking tape

·         Scissors

·         Black felt tip pen

·         Craft glue

1.      Trace out these shapes (also seen below) and transfer them onto pages from an old book. Cut the shapes out.

2.      Bend the cup section around and stick in position, overlapping the two edges by 1cm.

3.      Make a cut every few millimetres all around the edge of the teacup base, snipping just up to the inner circle. Bend this fringe upward.

4.      Spread glue around the bottom, inner edge of the teacup and drop the base into the mug so that it is level with the bottom edge of the cup. Press all around to hold in position

5.      Curl the end of the teacup handle around a pencil. Stick one end about 1cm, up from the base of the mug. Shape the handle and stick the opposite end to the side of the mug.

6.      Form the saucer shape, overlapping the edges by 1cm. Stick in position.

7.      Snip all around the edge of the base circle. Spread glue along the edge, then secure to the curved underside of the saucer, covering the hole.

We say get creative with charity shop finds, old books you've already read (and don’t know what to do with) or even some illustrated books to achieve different effects!
