While I have been involved in this hobby for around 40 years, I must confess to be being a relative newcomer to AFV modelling. In fact, this is only the second armour subject I have tackled so far. Since realising this new interest, I have developed a fascination for half-track vehicles … specifically World War II German half-tracks. Among these, one of the most popular subjects is the Sd.Kfz.251. As many will be aware, there were several variants based on this vehicle, the one that appealed to me was the ‘Sd.Kfz.251/22 Ausf.D with 7.5cm PaK 40’. With no shortage of kits to choose from, I opted for Dragon’s 1/72-scale version. Released in 2008, the kit appears to be generally accurate, and is made up of a surprisingly large number of parts. My only criticism is that it is somewhat over-engineered in certain areas; I suspect the mouldings have simply been scaled down from their 1/35 kit.
