MH Tserng 2 July 1962 to 9 February 2021.
It was with great shock and sadness early last month that we learnt of the sudden and unexpected death of MH Tserng, the founder of AFV Club. Mr Tserng was a wellknown and much-respected member of the international modelling community, both in Europe and the Far East. He built up AFV Club as an aside to his main business, running his own model shop in Taiwan, to be one of the major plastic kit manufacturers in the world. All who met him spoke of his enthusiasm for the hobby and his generosity towards other hobbyists. As a magazine editor, he was a pleasure to deal with, responding promptly to requests for product news and he was one of the few manufacturers willing to send test shots of new kits to allow them to be examined and built up by our contributors. In 2019 Chris Meddings, the former editor of Scale Aircraft Modelling, visited the Shizuoka Hobby Show in Japan where he met Mr Tserng and interviewed him for MMI. By way of tribute to a stalwart of the hobby, w have reprinted that interview below alongside a gallery of some AFV Club kits built by Mr Tseng’s friend and MMI regular contributor, David Chou.
