UNITED AUCTIONS held its annual show and sale of Blackface lambs also sale of cross bred lambs and feeding sheep at Dalmally Auction Mart. A catalogued entry of almost 11,000 lambs and sheep sold to a good ringside of buyers. Prices realised reflected current trends when sale averages fell by £3.20 per head on the year. However, noted lots of lambs, annually sold at this popular event, recorded a drop of two-three kilos on the year while others maintained their weight and consequently sold at levels on a par with last year. Top and second draw Blackface lambs sold well whilst third and fourth draws were harder to cash. Judging of the Blackface lambs was in the capable hands of Mr Ian Stewart, Easter Cash Farm, Strathmiglo, who awarded the placings as follows: Champion pen taking the James Weir Memorial Trophy – M/s Buchanan, Achnaba which realised £60.50. Second – Clachan Farm, Kilninver - £58. Third – Tayvallich Estate - £54. All three lots were purchased by Mr Donald Heuchan, Castle Douglas.
