There has been concern voiced about the proposals for a new development between Dunbeg and Ganavan that could see as many as 600 new homes being constructed, as well as the installation of a new roundabout at the main road junction into the village.
Put forward to Argyll and Bute Council by the Link Group Ltd, a major Scottish social landlord, the scheme proposes ‘a mix of for-sale units and multi-tenure affordable homes’, including ‘recreation, commercial, community facilities, business and industry and three strategic development roads’ on ‘vacant land to the north of A85 between existing settlements of Dunbeg and Ganavan’.
While there are certainly positives in Link’s proposal, there are very obvious questions surrounding the supporting infrastructure for such a development, not least of which is the pressure such a project would place on local health care and education. After all, the residents of the 600 new homes would require to be registered with a GP practice and the children must attend school.
