LISMORE Book Week begins on Monday with a theme of Scottish and Gaelic culture.
The 10-mile-long island, meaning ‘great garden’, lying in Loch Linnhe at the end of the Great Glen, has played an important part in the West Highlands’ prehistory and history, and has an ancient and unbroken tradition of Gaelic literature.
Lismore Gaelic Heritage Centre is hosting eight events from Monday until Friday, September 5 to 9, starting at 10am on Monday with a workshop on writing and illustrating a story with Jennifer Baker and Sarah Campbell, authors of a children’s book The Magic Tartan Trampoline, based on island adventures. Afterwards at 1.30pm, actor, poet and performer Catriona Lexy Campbell explores Gaelic literature and drama.
