CONGESTED traffic on Soroba Road could be made worse by a second set of traffic lights, Oban Community Council heard on Monday.
In most rush hours, Oban’s main access road is gridlocked with traffic going to or from work and school. Community councillor Kate Winton said: ‘I was quicker in my wheelchair than a fire engine.’ Argyll and Bute Councillor Roddy McCuish blamed the traffic lights outside Oban high school. ‘The traffic moved most freely when the lights weren’t working,’ he said. ‘My personal opinion is to put a roundabout there, but you’re talking £10 million to £12 million, which the council doesn’t have.’
Oban North and Lorn Councillor Kieron Green told the meeting: ‘There’s another set of traffic lights going in at McCall Terrace, at the entrance to the new high school.’
