There is no doubt Fort William is crying out for more housing, particularly affordable housing, and there will be many people with the same views as MSP Kate Forbes who this week welcomed plans to build 400 new homes in the town. But to do so without serious consideration to the extra traffic this would generate, and how our struggling infrastructure would cope, would be extremely short-sighted.
Ms Forbes said poor infrastructure should not be allowed to stall growth and jobs creation, but the reality is that without that key infrastructure the town will struggle.
It does already, particularly during the summer when an influx of visitors seriously impacts the day-to-day flow of traffic in and out of the town.
