THE ORWELL Society is visiting Jura this week to see where author George Orwell wrote his novel 1984. Society members, led by Orwell’s adopted son Richard Blair, will be on the island from tomorrow (Friday) until Monday. The society will visit Barnhill at the invitation of the Fletcher family and enjoy a trip around Jura to see some of the features of the island, including the Gulf of Corrievreckan, where Orwell nearly drowned in 1947.
