His name might be unmistakably Italian, but Renato Di Ciacca is an Obanite through and through – and immensely proud of it. Renato was born, brought up and lives in the town, where he is one of the best known figures in the Oban business community. His Oban Bay Fish Bar and Restaurant and Nories fish and chip shop, both located in George Street, are hugely popular traditional food outlets that are among the longest-established businesses in the community. Renato’s mum and dad, Onorio and Elvira, came to Oban some 48 years ago and set up the business here. Today, the family connection remains just as strong, with Renato at the helm, ably assisted by his son Antonio. But the connection doesn’t end there – Renato’s sister Linda and brother-in-law Jack MacGregor are also involved (and his brother Mario runs the fishing tackle shop, also in George Street).
