Katia (left) crosses the finish line of Ötillö Swimrun Malta
Swimrun appealed to me from the first time I heard about the original Ötillö. I loved the idea of taking a journey through beautiful “wild” places, across land and water, unrestricted by roads, and working in a pair, taking responsibility for each other’s safety. I liked the way swimrunners adapted their kit to enable them to switch smoothly between land and water, and that it’s a sport you can do with very little equipment.
I don’t do many events but I am attracted to quirky concepts or challenges that allow me to do things or explore places that would otherwise be tricky to do by myself. I also prefer small groups rather than mass participation races. Swimrun ticks those boxes too.
