The original Raspberry Pi Touch Display debuted in 2015, enhancing the standard Pi with a tablet-like interface for digital signage, interactive displays and entertainment. Now, after a decade, this new model brings a higher resolution and useful extra features for the same price as before.
At first glance it looks very similar to the old version, with the same chunky bezels and the same 7in display format (although this model has a slightly wider 16:9 aspect ratio, rather than the 5:3 shape of the original).
ABOVE The 7in touch display has a sharp 720 x 1,280 resolution
Hooking up is easier than before, however. Where the original Touch Display required an external driver board, the new model has that built in, and connects directly via a ribbon cable to the CAM/DISP1 port on your Pi, with power coming from a second cable connected to the Pi’s GPIO header. The Pi attaches to the rear of the screen like a backpack, using the included M2.5 machine screws.
