Mass plantings are a great way to echo the majestic vistas of the coastline, elevating a plant by creating a theme. Grasses have a lovely softly textured appearance and move with the breeze. Design by Helen Elks-Smith

Open to the elements and slightly wild at heart, seaside gardens have a weathered charm and appeal that is also possible to recreate in plots far from the coast. While a sea view can come with some challenging conditions, it also presents an opportunity to grow plants that tolerate and can thrive in the salty, windy and dry conditions that prevail, and create a design unlike any other.
