Another creative way to take advantage of A colourful Christmas objects is to capture images of them refracted in water drops. You’ll need a macro lens that ideally offers 1:1 magnification in order to get close enough to fill the frame with just one or two drops, but you can still create impactful images with a standard closefocusing lens if you simply add more drops.
There are different ways to approach this type of macro photography, but perhaps the most straightforward is to add drops to a pane of glass that’s positioned above the object that will be refracted in the water. To make drops ‘bead up’ in a similar way to raindrops on a freshly waxed car, clean the glass with an automotive rain repellant before you add the water. Use a pipette or syringe to add one drop at a time.
