We’ve finally seen a snippet of the Uncharted film. Starring Tom Holland as a baby-faced Nathan Drake, alongside Mark Wahlberg as a not-yet-grey Sully, the movie looks set to take the ‘origin story’ approach.
The film plays around with the familiar chronology, remixing certain elements rather than telling a completely new story. On top of showing the beginning of Nate’s treasure-hunting partnership with Sully, the trailer spotlights plot beats you’ll recognise from the later games, most notably a mid-air cargo catastrophe that appears to be ripped straight from a set-piece in the third game, and movie Nate’s motivation is finding his brother Sam. Debuting in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Sam, who everyone thought was dead, returns to ask Nate for help finding treasure. In the film, Sam is only implied to be missing, though his disappearance is strongly linked to a mountain of gold.
